... I noticed something interesting about Grady's wife - she looked like a former contestant, I just couldn't pinpoint who, and Alex also never mentioned. However as the camera pans out after Grady's car win, we hear Alex asking Grady's wife, "Now what did YOU win?" or something to that effect... I'm not sure if she was a former contestant or not. EDIT: Upon reviewing some of the earlier episodes I find that Grady's wife is Carolyn from episodes 917-918, who didn't win a car but won a game with $4,687 in prizes. Good catch. Not sure if you were sarcastic when you said that...? Also I have uploaded the four episodes that aired today. They should be at the top of my channel here: www.youtube.com/@666network-r3r/videos

I looked back at my notes, and I can plainly see now the last names matched, but I never would figured it out like you did.

They should be at the top of my channel here: www.youtube.com/@666network-r3r/videosNo sarcasm. I think it's cool that you not only recognized her, but figured out when she was on. I looked back at my notes, and I can plainly see now the last names matched, but I never would figured it out like you did. Well, I also researched, and found out that there are a "Grady and Carolyn Manley" who were listed as donors for a 2024 summer ballet camp in which their young granddaughter (Grady and Carolyn should be grandparents now; if their sons were 9yo and 7yo in 1991, then they should be both older than me, I'm guessing this year the sons would be 43yo and 41yo respectively) was an attendee - and incidentally, the granddaughter's name is Elizabeth, after Grady's first opponent! It's a bit like everything coming full circle if you ask me. It's a bit like how I found out that Kevin from #988-#990 was the brother of Karen from #864-#865. There's a lot of factors you gotta look at (facial features, appearance, surname, etc; if they are siblings, consider the first letter of each of their first names too), you may also have to do research. Somebody else actually did this as well - they noticed that Jeff from #939-#941 was the brother of Jim from #901-#903. Today, we have episodes 974-977 coming up; and next week we'll have episodes 978 through 997. I'll upload as many as I can; I understand two episodes were skipped?

On episode 976, the second game begins with the featured prize being a portable VCR with a 4" LCD color monitor. As GW describes the prize, Marjorie inserts a VHS tape, and presses "Play" while the camera zooms in on the LCD monitor, which can be clearly seen.
So what was on the tape? Classic Concentration, of course! It is episode 956, Game 1, the second turn of the game. The couple in the left seat (it was Love Week) was making their first selection after the couple on the right started the game by failing to make a match.

I just couldn't remember which exact episode that was (I'm into the regular games only; the "specials" don't seem to make any sense to me apart from the Tournament of Champions).

The pattern of opening rebuses has revealed additional information about CC episodes that BUZZR has skipped.
First of all, the opening rebus on episode 977 was almost certainly used as the opening rebus for BUZZR skipped episode 791
Secondly, the six opening rebuses for episodes 787-792 (repeated again as opening rebuses for episodes 973-978) were almost certainly used in game play during BUZZR skipped episodes 545-549 (Love Week # 2, air dates Monday July 10, 1989 through Friday July 14, 1989).

All right. So a few things to note concerning the recent episode 990. First off, I knew Dina was a very good player given her gameplay in her first few appearances. Her main strength was in solving the puzzles - the only way to win a chance to play for the car. And she did that, knocking out at least two players in a row. Her main issue was in playing for the car. I thought, hey, maybe she needs just a bit more time to do so, and she might make it. Although even a minute proved to be not enough for her (episode 989 game 2), I cross-referenced with what Alex said to Terri in episode 1036 ("the longest time we've had for any winner on Concentration was 70 seconds, and that person finally wound up winning a car") - I thought maybe, just maybe, Dina might well have been that player, because up till that time nobody in the Two Strikes 2.0 format had gotten more than 60 seconds on the clock, and somebody had to have done so at some point in time if Alex mentioned it. (Of course, Terri won her car with 65 seconds in episode 1037 Game 1; her record would later be beaten by Chris Gardner in episode 1074 Game 2 with 70 seconds - but that's another story.) When Kevin came around, I thought he was also a good player, if somewhat annoying. Given the fact that he was the brother of Karen from episodes 864-865, and of course cross-referencing with Karen's own gameplay style, I assumed Kevin would pretty much play the same way as Karen had done. And that's what he was like at least in his first two appearances (episodes 988 and 989), main game and bonus game alike. Kevin's quicksolve in episode 989 ("ROCKING CHAIR") was understandable, it was a pretty easy puzzle and I think even Karen (not known for quick solving) would have figured it out with that much showing. What completely took me by surprise, though, was Kevin's unusual change of style in gameplay in episode 990. He virtually did not give Dina any chance to get into the game at all whatsoever; all the prizes were on his column. So I thought and hoped that this would be a similar situation to Antoinette in episode 1037, where she dominated the board but could not solve the puzzle (ending up Antoinette blowing all nine prizes, when Terri finally solved it after all the squares were opened). And seeing how difficult the puzzle was just from the squares that had already been opened, I thought that just might be the case here, that Kevin would accumulate the prizes but Dina would suddenly jump in and offer a solution when all the squares were open, forcing Kevin to forfeit all the prizes. Sadly I was mistaken. Kevin proposed a quicksolve at this very point in the game, offering his solution as "KEY TO THE CITY": (and I was wondering, what's a key to the city?? Never heard the term before, at least not here in the UK...) Turned out he was correct: Now this was so un-Karen-like. Recalling to mind Karen's style of gameplay, she was a lot more like Terri, figuring the puzzle while allowing her opponent to make the matches (and then blow the prizes). She wasn't known for quicksolving at all. So Kevin's second quicksolve, especially on a difficult puzzle like this, completely upstaged me. Also how did he get that solution with only that many squares revealed?? He didn't see the "tee" at the bottom. Also, the "tooth" at the top wasn't clear, maybe it was just the drawing I dunno, but I didn't know it was a "tooth" until Kevin offered his quicksolve (after which, realizing what the artist was trying to depict with that being a "tooth", I realized that such a depiction would be considered kind of politically incorrect and inappropriate in this day and age, brutality depicted and all, you know how it is). So I was thinking, hey, does this dude need a saliva test of sorts or what?? And finally, his gameplay in the bonus round which won him a Hyundai Excel (allegedly a "very unpopular" car, but from what I've seen that isn't the case). His choice of the "1-3, 4-6, 7-9..." pattern (instead of the "1-2, 3-4, 5-6..." pattern that Karen had used and which won her a car, and which Kevin himself had used in his first two bonus games), came a second shock to me. From "7-9" onwards, he got at least three consecutive matches in a row - and in about 36-37 seconds he won the Excel. Not sure why Kevin suddenly changed his pattern, but given how he was playing in this episode, something tells me that there might have been offstage collusion of sorts during the commercial breaks or something. The second quicksolve was what was especially worrying to me. What say y'all? Anyone got any opinions on this?

TOday is the 33rd anniversary of Wheel of Fortune daytime and CLassic Concentration leaving the 10-11AM EST hour on NBC, as they decided to stop programming it. CC's last three weeks in that time slot(and WOF's) were reruns, and CC reruns came back at 11:30AM EST five weeks later on 10/28/1991

I agree, but I think the answer isn't merely "offstage collusion", but more accurately "off-set" or "off-studio". Episode 990 was almost certainly recorded on a different day than 989, as evidenced by the change in two of the cars offered in the bonus round; the Hyundai Scoupe & Isuzu Stylus were switched our for the VW Fox and Chevrolet Camaro. Since the contestants left and came back on a different day, it's not unexpected that they might come back with a different mindset and/or strategies.
Regarding Dina's game play on 990, she did not play at a high level.
On her second turn, she revealed the Entertainment Center behind door #1, and could have made an immediate match with door #23, which she herself had opened on her first turn a few moments earlier. Instead, she chose door #25, which was not only the wrong door for the match (which can sometimes work out if there is a wild card), but it was also the other door she had opened on her first turn (which we all knew had the cruise behind it) so there was zero possibility of a match.
Also, on her fourth turn (which turned to be her last), she started out not only by opening a previously revealed prize (a garment bag, behind #6), it was also the last door her opponent had just opened immediately prior to her selection. Strategically, it was a bad selection, as she severely limited her chances for a match, and gained no new information to inform her second pick.

The 2PM 4/17/1991 episode existed on Youtube for quite some time, taped off an April 14, 1992 rerun on KYW in Philly(NBC then, CBS since 9/11/1995). For a brief period in 1992 was the only time KYW cleared CLassic COncentration. Rerun airdate for this episode on NBC is known to be 4/14/1992 since the 4/13/1992 episode of ENtertainment TOnight is on Youtube, and Bonnie Bramlett Sheridan is said to have been profiled on the next episode.

On retrospect, having watched the episode again, I realized Dina looked a bit tired in episode 990. She obviously wasn't playing at full strength, as far as making matches was concerned. Still, had the game continued on till all the squares were revealed, she may have had a chance to solve the puzzle, a la Terri (in episode 1037 game 1, where Terri made a small error in a match after "going braindead" and then allowing Antoinette to get all the prizes in her column, but still at the end it was Terri who solved the puzzle and the game with it). And God knows how Kevin managed to make that quick solve when there wasn't enough showing (especially that "tee") - and not many people know what a "key to the city" is (for the record, I didn't until yesterday).

While the tee itself was not visible to the contestants, it has been a common symbol in the show, going all the way back to its first use in a rebus in episode 6. With the golf motif clearly visible, it was not really all that remarkable (IMHO) that Kevin figured it out.
Awarding a "key to the city" is a very common symbol in the USA. In fact, I just learned that it goes all the way back in the USA to 1702 in NYC, and even further back in Europe when the keys were functional. I always picture it as a way for small towns to honor hometown heroes, but I guess it goes beyond that in actual practice.

Pictures of golfing ranges have been used to represent a lot of things in Classic Concentration from what I've seen - I believe it's been used to represent, apart from "tee", such words as "range", "fair", "course" etc? (correct me if I am wrong) And yes, from what I searched, the "key to the city" practice seems to date back to Germany in the middle ages - come to think of it, we already know contextually that Kevin is of German descent, so perhaps it could have been a cultural thing, I dunno for sure.
