well the Buzzr pillar boxing continues (and it's driving bananas) i've also read user complaints about pillar boxing on Buzzr's FB page i'm beginning to wonder if this is Buzzr's end instead of WBNM 50.1

I noticed something while watching MGHSH with the Closed Captioning.
While the video of the show itself occupied only a 4:3 aspect ratio with the black bars on the left and right side of the screen, the captions themselves extended over the top of the bar on the left side of the screen. I found that odd, as I would have expected the captions to have remained within the 4:3 box.

This has pushed me over to recording the stream, which is much better quality and overall easier. The only downside is you miss commercials about horrific ways to clean your ears.

At least they're not stretching or distorting the original aspect ratio.

The OTA version of it is still crushed for me - seemingly formatted for 720p in a 480 box. The next on banner popping up three to four times in the row at the top of a segment (and starting during the commercials) is still happening, but now it's a new banner.
Perhaps the OTA feed changed format and my cable company isn't aware of it yet. A quasi HD feed for SD channel. It just happened to me yesterday during a 4:30PM Card Sharks episode.

The shows are 4:3, but the image they're broadcasting is 16:9 - the show with black bands on the left and right of the image. But it's not filling the screen. It's been shown at 4:3, so it's crushing the image. It's a 4:3 station and they're sending out the signal in the wrong format.
The first image is how it should look, the second is how it looks now.

For those who saw the BUZZR stream, today’s Blockbusters episode was actually supposed to be for tomorrow, but it aired today anyway for some odd reason. The OTA version aired the correct episode. The stream version was interrupted by commercial timings from the TV version of the episode.
07/30/2020 10:30AM ET on BUZZR OTA: Blockbusters (December 1, 1981 | #81_0271): Musetta/John & Clyde Stream: Blockbusters (December 2, 1981 | #81_0272): Musetta/Janet & Nancy

You must have gotten yours from PlutoTV or Sling, which appears to be the source that the OTA version now uses minus those personalized stream ads. I got mine through the official BUZZR website.

This explains everything.
The fastly feed is the old one, which for instance when recorded at 720p produced a 960x720 4:3 image.
The new amagi feed was just recently switched over to, which at 720p is a pillarboxed widescreen 1280x720 image. the 4:3 aspect ratio of the content is maintained.
So, some of the local OTA channels have not switched over to the widescreen window after the source feed was switched and that is why the image is scrunched horizontally.

The second part of the second fee plug (mentioning consolation prizes, seen at the end of the show) was intact in today's airings of the "Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour".

Pat & Liz McCarthy start their run at the end of this episode of Blockbusters. What an amazing mother and daughter they were. Margaret van der Bie, Liz's niece stated in a YouTube comment that Pat, her grandmother, passed away peacefully in 2011. These days, Liz is VP at a New Jersey Fortune 500 Company. Recently, Liz played on Jeopardy! on March 8, 2018. She lost, and was trailing by $400. One more correct answer and a proper wager might have given her the win. Liz stated that her mother was on the original Tic Tac Dough in 1959, winning $50,000. It's unclear if Barry & Enright predetermined her outcome or not.
