RIP. Loved him on Bullseye and Name That Tune, especially.

Oh no. I loved him on Bullseye. He was OK on the Dating Game. He's definitely an underrated host.
R.I.P.
Edit: Actually that week he did on The Newlywed Game, he was probably my favorite host for the series.

The complete emcee-ography of Jim Lange, in alphabetical order:
* Bullseye (1980-1982) * The Dating Game (1965-1974; 1978-1980) * Give-N-Take (1975) * Hollywood Connection (1977) * The New Newlywed Game (1984) * The New $100,000 Name That Tune (1984-1985) * The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime (1985-1987) * Oh My Word (1966-1967) * Spin-Off (1975) * Take My Word For It (1982) * Triple Threat (1988-1989) * 21 (unsold pilot, 1982)
He was also a frequent guest star on sitcoms whenever the script called for a "game show host" character; such appearances included turns on Laverne & Shirley, Bewitched, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Moesha, and even The Super Mario Bros. Super Show.

gsn is surprising doing a tribute Wed. 8-12 The Dating Game. GSN rarely does anything I can agree with anymore, but this is a rare exception. Although I hate the Dating Game with a passion, I won't complain with GSN going out of its way to honor a falling host.

Nice to see they're paying tribute to him. I could complain by asking why not Bullseye, but they're honoring him. Something I didn't think they'd do, and besides, Lange is better known for The Dating Game

Can anybody tell me if this is advertised as I hardly ever watch gsn anymore GSN does not have the rights to $1MCOAL, so they will do TDG only, although I wished they would have added the HS from 2002 where Peter Marshall hosted (JL was on the panel, though I don't remember if he got any Q's that day).

It couldn't be that much for a one time airing, heck we thought we never see Sale on gsn and we did

Watching an episode of Super Password from yesterday. Before returning to one of the segments, they threw in a little tribute to Jim Lange. With respect and affection from Game Show Network.

Frankly, I would've thrown in -- just for variety -- one hour of Bullseye episodes to go with the Dating Game stuff. I'd also do a late-night tribute hour of rarities, one episode of Hollywood Showdown and one from that week of Newlywed quasi-pilots he hosted for ABC in '84. All of these are physically in GSN's possession and getting the rights would be relatively easy -- or easier than Chance of a Lifetime, certainly. (Does anyone even know where the rights to that show currently lie, let alone the physical tapes?)
Jim Lange will justifiably be forever associated with The Dating Game, which was by any yardstick a cultural icon of the '60s and early '70s, but it would be nice to be reminded that Jim could also very effectively host other, more "traditional" game shows as well. Certainly, Bullseye is enough of a cult favorite (admittedly not to the degree of, say, Press Your Luck) that they should have tried to secure a one-off license to air it for this tribute.
...Fortunately, YouTube and message boards like this are under no such licensing restrictions, so here's a representative Bullseye episode. (If you saw my TPiRecap for Thursday, this may look familiar; it's the same episode I linked to for the Showcase/"Bonus Island" Easter egg.)
