The reason there's no footage is because they haven't taped any episodes yet. The tapings aren't until...I think June 12? The title graphic they used for the ad was the same version they used in the later version of the version we loved, so that's a good thing... Not necessarily. They used a yellow variant for the pitchfilm that was shot for the 1998-99 revival, and that series ended up using a much blander-looking logo. (For those who don't know, the logo used in ABC's promos is a black variant of the one used from 1978-82.) There were definitely shows taped on June 16th. I know this because I received an email on June 15th about tickets. When I clicked to the ticket page, there were three times listed; 11 AM, 2:30 PM, and 5 PM. The 11 AM and 2:30 tapings had tickets available, but it was too late to re-arrange my schedule. Just for kicks, I clicked the link again, and there are more tapings scheduled for this week. 9 AM, 12:30 PM, and 3:00 PM on Wednesday June 29, and Thursday June 30. Only 6/29 9 AM has tickets available. The site is "On-Camera Audiences", I have obtained AGT tickets from them the last two years.

For the record, GSN aired the last episode of the first syndicated season today at 8 AM, and then at 8:30 AM went back to episode 1216 of MG78. This is the third time through for GSN.

I got an entry for my blog from your thread on "Game Show Hosts in Other Media," so I'm posting this entry about Match Game.
Scenes from a lifeSo I watched an ep of Match Game '78 on GSN this morning. The star wheel was just a week old and Gene Rayburn was still explaining its intricacies. Richard Dawson looked extremely displeased whenever the star wheel appeared or was referred to. (He would much later denounce the gadget as a "slight" to himself. He liked getting picked all the time for the big money match.) But this entry isn't about the star wheel (mostly). Instead, an actress named Didi Carr was sitting in the bottom-left bimbo seat. I had never heard of her. So I went on a Google hunt after the show. And I got some interesting bits of a life. In 1978 Didi Carr was making a living on a short-lived sitcom called Sugar Time about an an aspiring all-girl pop group. The show departed after one season and took the fictional group with it. On the Match Game ep I watched, Didi was wearing a t-shirt with Gloria Steinem's famous blast: "A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle." I thought, this might be a low-key protest against the entire concept of the bimbo seat. Maybe I was right, Didi didn't say. The post-show Google hunt turned up this 2001 bio of the now Didi Carr Reuben (she had left show business and married a rabbi named Steven Reuben). The bio revealed that the rebbetzin - which I learned was a rabbi's wife - was "an atheist, hard-core." Hm, that seemed to fit with the t-shirt on Match Game. I moved on to this 2014 YouTube video of the rabbi's wife, talking about a friend of hers named Susan Whitmore. Finally, I found this post from the couple's son Gable in 2015 about a fire at Steven and Didi Reuben's house. Luckily nobody was hurt. Life goes on, and Google and YouTube are sometimes there to document it.

Someone forgot to chroma key out the black during the end credits segment of one of the recently aired episodes of MG73 on Buzzr, which lead to this end result: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mH5gFle6prM

Watching MG 77 on GSN, and the challenger on Episode 962 is named Pam Simmons. That sounded familiar, so I checked my notes to find that Pam Simmons was a 3-time champ on episodes 945 and 946. Now I don't recall what the 945/946 Pam Simmons looked like, and I couldn't find the episodes on YT, so while I am not 100% sure, I am fairly certain these are two different people. For the record, GR introduced the 962 Pam Simmons without referring to any unfair prior appearance.

After watching the recent airings on MG77 on GSN, I noticed something odd about contestant Kathy Mathis, who won three games on episodes 1004, 1005, and 1007. Two of the three contestants she defeated were both brought back for another opportunity.
The first one to be brought back was Craig Getloff (sp?), who was the unfortunate victim of the "School" riot incident on episode 1005. For those who don't know, Craig needed three to tie in Round 2, and answered "School". After being awarded two matches for "College", and one match for "Scuba Diving School" (but only after a delay), he was inexplicably denied two matches for "Finishing School", and also denied a match for "Night School". Richard Dawson vehemently pleaded for the contestant to no avail. This episode is included on the Match Game DVD set.
Linda Olsen was also brought back, but for unspecified reasons. All I have in my notes for her loss are the basics. She was ahead 6-4, and then the champ tied with two matches before going on to win the tie breaker 2-1.

johnnyo, I have some interesting information to share with you about Anitra Ford, one of the celebrities who was skipped by GSN. This came straight from Chuck Donegan. The non-reairing of her appearance on Match Game '76 was part of the conditions of her departure from The Price is Right. And the week was guest-hosted by Bert Convy to coincide w/a week where Gene Rayburn hosted Tattletales.

She was ahead 6-4, and then the champ tied with two matches before going on to win the tie breaker 2-1. All the questions, answers and matches seemed straightforward, except when Kathy got her 4 matches in round 1: "Dumb Dora thought the movie Deliverance was about _____". Kathy said "birth". Did not match "Maternity Ward", but did get credit for 2 matches for "a baby". As far as gameplay goes, this can only be the question that might have been a reason for coming back.

And it's the week that we're never going to be able to see? Someone clearly has it out for me.

Depressed because he knew he was going to lose viewers. Mike Ogiens screwed up.

OMG!
Just watching Ep. 1095, and the challenger, Kenneth Kelly is African American. He chose "A" for his first round question, and it was standard MG fare, "That new surgeon must have been a cook..."
So question "B" for the champ (a white woman) was about a "Midget KKK member who wore a <blank> instead of a sheet"!!!
Can you imagine if the challenger had chosen "B"? As it was, Nipsey Ruseell was on the panel, and while Gene was reading the question, they did cut to Nipsey twice, who had a neutral expression on his face. Before revealing his response, Nipsey deflected attention away from the offensive aspect of the question by telling a joke about doing a show for midgets, but not noticing the standing ovation. He only smiled when the audience cheered for his answer of "pilowcase" (which would have earned five matches; the champ earned one match for "handkerchief".)

Nipsey was a class act. He handled it well.

Am I seeing this correctly? Match Game at 1pm on GSN? Please tell me I'm not the only one seeing this right now.
