(Brief edit for my benefit - NEVER confuse the first episode with a "pilot" - never know where it can go...)
Finally going for it with "hosting" my own version of Sale of the Century
This will be a "hybrid blend" of rules from the 1980s "shopping" format and the associated board game (the one with the buzzers and lights).
Rules are as follows:
Now that that's done, who's up for it?
Finally going for it with "hosting" my own version of Sale of the Century
This will be a "hybrid blend" of rules from the 1980s "shopping" format and the associated board game (the one with the buzzers and lights).
Rules are as follows:
- Three contestants each start on $20
- A set of questions will be listed and numbered. Please private-message the question number, your "buzzcode" (any number between 1 and 100) and your answer
- Closest "buzzcode" to my generated number will either gain or lose part of their score depending on the question
- If two or three contestants come in with the same buzzcode, the first in with that number will have the advantage
- 22 questions of various values (as per the board game):
- Questions 1 through 6 and 8 through 13 are $5 each
- Questions 7 and 14 are "Fame Game" questions. For each question, five clues will be given. I will need your buzzcode and the number of clues
- If two or three contestants requested the same number of clues, the closest buzzcode will have the advantage. If the same buzzcode is likewise submitted, the first in with that code will have the advantage
- An incorrect answer will lock you out but you will not lose money; a correct answer will allow you to pick a "Fame Game" card
- First Fame Game will have a $10 card and a $15 card; second Fame Game will have a $25 card and a Wild Card (Pick Again or $1,000) added
- Questions 15 to 22 are $10 each
- There will be three Gift Shops, which can only be played by the first contestant to reach a certain score (as in the board game)
- First Gift Shop is worth $5; first contestant to reach $35 can buy if they wish
- Second Gift Shop worth $10; first to $45 can buy
- Third Gift Shop worth $15; first to $55 can buy
- I can offer a lower price to tempt you - be prepared!
- If a Gift Shop amount is reached in the middle of one of the question sets, I will continue that set after the Gift Shop segment has finished
- If a Fame Game cash amount goes past one Gift Shop amount (e.g. $40 to $50, passing the $45 mark), the contestant can choose to purchase the relevant Gift Shop prize if they wish
- If a Fame Game amount goes past two Gift Shop amounts (e.g. $40 to $65, passing the $45 and $55 marks), the higher-valued Gift Shop prize will be offered (and the lower-valued Gift Shop will be skipped)
- If a contestant answers incorrectly on $0, they will be eliminated from the game
- The contestant with the highest score wins the game
- If there is a two- or three-way tie, a Fame Game-style question will be asked (buzzcode and number of clues per the normal Fame Game)
- If two contestants are tied, a correct answer will win the game; an incorrect answer will win it for their opponent
- If three contestants are tied, a correct answer will also win; an incorrect answer will eliminate that contestant, and the question will continue until either a correct answer is given or the contestant gives an incorrect answer (thus the last contestant winning by default)
- The winning contestant can choose to use their winning score to buy a large prize, or risk their score for a higher level of prize
- Major prize levels are worth $75 (first level prize), $155 (second level), $240 (third level), $330 (fourth level), $420 (fifth level), $515 (car), $605 (all prizes) and $700 (all prizes plus $100,000 cash)
Now that that's done, who's up for it?
