Some people have complaints about current prime-time game shows, as do I. I have no complaints about daytime game shows.
Mike Richards really turned things around with The Price is Right and made it less about Drew Carey. I completely understand why he wanted to be "the host" of the show and not "the star." He's a big part of it, but it's the contestants who really make the show.
What a shame talk and court shows have become more popular than game shows now. Good thing more people are working during the day. I love DVRs! They're not like videotapes. which you can tape over and lose what you are watching. Technology makes things better and better, although those of us without jobs are unlucky. When the weather is terrible, like it is in most of the country, people can't go outside. Thank goodness for bookstores!
Do any of you have kids who feign illness during the day? When they grow older, they will realize their later years are serious, especially high school.
Case in point, many people have different points of view about life, and I'm glad you all are an open enough group of people to discuss it with me.
Thank you!
Jason

I think things were really rough honestly during much of Drew's second season, but things have turned around since then. I've had my issues with some of the decisions made during the Mike Richards era (for instance, I'm tired of the guest-modeling concept by now; it was better when it was done every once in a while and not basically every episode; it just leaves me missing my faves), but nothing is annoying enough for me to stop watching or anything at this point.

What a shame talk and court shows have become more popular than game shows now. I wouldn't say that those shows are more popular, just cheaper to produce. I'm sure people would rather watch game shows if they had a true choice. I for one am getting sick and tired of Judge Judy being shown three times a day. Yes I said THREE times a day. I mean come on! One episode a day is enough! I'd rather watch game shows than the other two showings of that fruitbat.

You mean talk and court shows are cheaper than game shows to produce?
If I could give Judge Judy credit for one thing, it would be her honesty.

Talk shows and judge shows are definitely cheaper to produce. For those, all you need is a host and some guests. Game shows have large cash rewards to give away and deal with prize budgets on a daily basis. Talk shows have stuff like free gifts, but they're usually paid for by the companies that provide the gifts.
As far as talk shows go, Maury has aired 3 times a day here on WATL in Atlanta for years. Same with Jerry Springer. I'm not sure if this has changed with the current season. The way WATL has run their daytime schedule in the last several years has been very disappointing. If you're not Maury, Jerry, or Steve Wilkos, you don't seem to matter and you're shoved off to 8:00 am and the show in question eventually dies or moves to another affiliate.
Cash Cab could have a decent spot on the schedule instead of airing at 4:30 am, sandwiched between infomercials.

This is very true, but I'd take reruns of those over more Maury. And the second and third Maury and Jerry episodes are also reruns. Just something to diversify the schedule a little bit. Does anyone else remember when Maury had more than the same 5 topics over and over? I ended up losing interest years ago because it's about 85% paternity test/lie detector results.

I thought they still do have the same five topics. Haven't seen it on a television of mine since 2011, when the old man watched it religiously.

]Have you forgotten about syndication? No, I haven't, because those are repeats of the episodes from Discovery Channel, just like the syndicated episodes of "Baggage" are repeats of the GSN episodes...

I think game shows may have had their best chance in 2008-10 when soap operas were dying off the networks a bit. Unfortunately, the only one to get through was LMaD into CBS Daytime. Thus now syndication is kind of the last outlet atm and the environment favors talk or court shows. Family Feud is the only one making headway otherwise. We'll have to see if Let's A$k America! can break the national stage next season.

well most talk shows promote bad behavior, infidelity, women that don't know 100% who the father is, etc.
The Millionaire show has been a curse to game shows cause every new show sets the top prize at $1,000,000 to get people to watch, then make that top prize insanely hard to win

So, I take it if there was only Millionaire you would be happy?
