Thought I'd go ahead and start a thread where you can discuss GSN's new show Skin Wars.

Yeah, the most enjoyable part was that Geico commercial with Rocky and Bullwinkle. I only lasted 15 minutes. It's sooo boring. It's like watching paint dry.....yeah, that's what it is.

Ugh, really doesn't feel good to know this show is pulling better numbers than something like The Chase.
I had a feeling it'd get a hot start though with all the exposure. Question is will it last...

Ugh. This show is gonna get a second season, isn't it? Those big ratings have me worried.

I trashed the show at Game Show Follies, but I'm impressed by the numbers. The show also skewed very young by GSN's geriatric standards. Unless there's a complete collapse as the weeks go by, you'll be seeing more of the show on our little game show network.

When I was at Walmart I was reading some magazines and looking for posters of The Chase when suddenly I was looking through a copy of Us Weekly and in it was a ad for Skin Wars and it shocks me that Skin Wars is now GSN's center of attention with Idiot Test second and The Chase in third place. And also when I watched Catch-21 this morning GSN showed nothing but Skin Wars advertisements and Idiot Test ads and they were no ads for The Chase to be seen. So GSN may be gaining a whole new audience due to the success of Skin Wars and it has shown a new side to GSN, Kelsey

We really don't know how long this is going to last. It's just one episode. There is no way of telling if this is a success until a few more episodes have passed.

"GSN's never tried to pimp out a show on various networks before." GSN went all out to promote American Bible Challenge on many other networks. Amy Davis and Jeff Foxworthy even went on CNN to sell the show. I'm no fan of Skin Wars, but the attempts to explain away its good numbers are unconvincing. The show performed well. I expect some erosion over the next few weeks. We saw that with American Bible Challenge after its big debut. In fact, both the Bible quizzer and The Chase are down significantly in the ratings for their current seasons. They're still performing well by GSN standards, but they're not putting up record numbers any more.

We'll see. Ratings are one thing - reception is another. Who knows how many of those 697,000 actually liked it enough to tune in next week...

I'm not surprised with the ratings. In order for networks like GSN to survive, they will need more mind-numbing shows that appeal to the lowest common denominator to increase ratings. And as we know, the denominator is consistently getting lower and more common. It is what it is.

As I've said before, I love RuPaul but I still think this show would fare better on Lifetime or Bravo. It's basically Project Runway with body paint and it looks to be something to fill the void while it isn't on... and for Ru fans, or fans of both shows, something to fill the void when Drag Race isn't on.
