The contestant helped explain the tiebreaker rebus on the 1PM episode today, which didn't usually happen.

I believe, going from 31 years old memory, the GOlden Girls bowed on NBC daytime in reruns on Wednesday 7/5/89. So possibly CC didn't air on 7/3 and 7/4 because of Wimbledon. Don't know about 7/6 or 7/7

Today's episodes were the first to have the two players be of the same gender, two women in the 1PM airing, and two men in the 1:30PM airing. Tomorrow, either at 1 or 1:30PM(as the 1/9/89 airing airing at 1:30PM EST tomorrow is already on Youtube), it will be the debut of contestants explaining the non tie-breaker rebuses Have there ever been two male contestants in the same episode on Narz's "Concentration"?

There hasn't. If any of us have recorded the entire Child's Play series(at least the episodes GSN reran that Buzzr has not yet aired), there also hasn't had 2 male players on an episode, neither did the Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour.

Also, for those who'd like to hunt for the skipped Match Game PM episodes, none of the skipped episodes have 2 woman contestants and the only time any counterpart of Match Game ever had 2 male contestants was when a male champion being champ much longer than expected. That male player went to win a record 12 games before getting defeated by his 13th opponent.

That male player went to win a record 12 games before getting defeated by his 13th opponent. The Champ was George Frederick, who won four games on MG76, and 8 on MG77. He lasted that long without exceeding the $25,000 limit by only winning the H2H Match four times; 2 x for $1,000, and 2x for $5,000. His 9th victory was over Ron Tonini, by a score of 2-1, in a game that was concluded on episode 876. After George lost to Phyllis Lear, the next two challengers she defeated were both male; RP Pounds and Ray Rivera. That was likely quite rare; having two consecutive male challengers.

For some reason, i thought that Classic Concentration did a pretty good job of having each match and bonus game fit into one complete show. The first game was split over the first two segments, with the second and third game (if needed) taking up the third segment. I'm not sure how you could have done it without the first game being split over the first two segments.

If someone during the two out of three format solved the first puzzle before the first commercial break(not likely, but it could happen), then the second commercial break would have to have occurred during the second puzzle.

I don't think it has happened in the episodes I have seen (I am currently on episode 401). The pattern seems fairly consistent; two or three turns take place before the first break. It was easy to start the music and have the commercial break because (for whatever reason) the contestants on CC were extremely chatty between turns/picks.
OTOH, I have noticed at times Jack Narz struggle to slip in the first break in the 1970's syndicated Concentration because the contestants were very quick to make the next selection after early matches where it was obvious they couldn't make a guess of the puzzle.

For the 1989 Tournament of Champions, since the game was played in a best two-out-of-three match at the time, the winner of each show played the bonus round with the clock counting upwards from zero and continuing until the seven paired cars on the board were successfully matched. On Friday of tournament week, whichever contestant completed the bonus round in the shortest length of time that week won an additional $25,000 in cash (the five contestants who made it to the bonus round that week got to keep the cars they won, regardless of who won the $25,000). I don't remember seeing the Friday ep in it's entirety though.

The November 1990 TofC only gave away one car and a $10K grand prize, so the budget was slashed a little on that one.

Does anyone remember these special weeks? I didn't know Classic Concentration did them, until I received those Excel notes:
Twins' Week (November 13-17, 1989) Mother's Day Week (May 06-10, 1991)

Goen Wheel did a Mother's Day week that same week in 1991
