Is it too late for GSN to undo the stuff that [programming EVP] Amy Davis has done to it?
Amy's had some bad luck lately but she's also presided over the best ratings that the network has ever gotten. So she's pretty safe for now. But a few new hits wouldn't hurt. GSN hasn't had a new hit show for a while.
Out of curiosity, do we know yet what numbers Scare Tactics got in its first week?
Scare Tactics total viewers (18-49 viewers). All numbers courtesy Douglas Pucci...
October 7 10:00 PM 209K (79K) 10:30 PM 209K (78K)
October 9 9:00 PM 148K (51K) 9:30 PM 101K (42K) 10:00 PM 90K (38K) 10:30 PM 77K (35K)
October 14 10:00 PM 182K (69K) 10:30 PM 188K (89K)
Bad numbers all around. Repeats of the show have already been cut back on the schedule, and it will almost certainly be gone completely after this month.

I'm sorry if I wasn't here again lately because of work but do you want another schedule from me?

I have zero objections to the content that gets posted on here.

She's definitely had good moments with shows like The Chase, The American Bible Challenge, and *gasp* Skin Wars (I still don't think it belongs on the network despite good ratings); but other than that, I think it's been a more bumpy road for Davis than a smooth one. Numbers like that for Scare Tactics don't help. I just don't think she knows what the viewers want (seriously, shows like Scare Tactics and the eventual Window Warriors don't belong on GSN), though putting Wheel of Fortune on the schedule for a little bit certainly doesn't hurt.

Just a couple of observations from yesterday's classic airings.
In PYL, Peter completely skipped over saying farewell to Nancy at the end, and in 25K Pyramid, the colors looked really washed out to the point of almost looking black and white. I assume a bad transfer from tape instead of my provider causing the problem.

GSN's viewer averages for October were 345K/253K prime time/total day. Pretty bad compared to earlier this year. In the second quarter, for instance, the averages were 469K/311K. The disasters with Hellevator and Scare Tactics took a toll. If nothing else, just getting rid of those turkeys should help the November numbers, though Window Whatever looks like a loser.

I just shake my head in disbelief every time the Window Warriors commercial comes on.

They're promoting the show at the mall nearest to where I live... Big time. They've got full-size adverts and little tri-fold cards at tables in the food court. I'm like... "Really? This show will probably suck, and I hope it does."

If Window Warriors does bad ratings wise, it will be another flop that will make Amy Davis look bad and it might be time for a change.

Speaking of GSN promotion, I'm a little surprised by how heavily the network is plugging the Wheel of Fortune acquisition. I figured Sony would make them tone it down, just so people didn't get the idea that Wheel was available any time of the day instead of the hallowed access spot. Which gets me speculating. Sony has watched Family Feud garner endless publicity as the "new number one" game show. That's just an artifact of Feud's multiple (up to four) daily runs in syndication, of course. Nielsen helpfully adds up all the ratings for those runs and Feud comes out with a big number. As local ratings from Atlanta and other markets show, in the time slot when Feud goes head-to-head against Wheel, Steve gets slaughtered. (5.0 for Wheel vs. 1.4 for Feud in Atlanta at 7:00 PM. But adding up all of Feud's four daily runs in Atlanta makes it a virtual tie. 4.6 for Feud vs. that 5.0 for Wheel. The same thing happens in markets around the country.) Meanwhile, Wheel has to generate all its ratings from one (1) daily run. Maybe Sony has finally decided that it's time for a second syndie run of Wheel each day, just like all the other syndicated game shows. Under Nielsen's add-'em-up system, that would restore Wheel to the number one slot in the weekly ratings. The GSN acquisition may be a test to see how Wheel can perform in other time slots, even opposite the dreaded TPiR. Oh, the desire for Amy Davis' scalp is amusing. She's produced the best numbers the network has ever gotten. She'll have to stumble a lot more to get the ax. Window Whatever will hardly be the deciding factor, though I agree it's a very likely flop. The promos look unbelievably dorky. People you've never heard of rummage through a lot of miscellaneous stuff. Wow, what a winner.

But I don't care what show beats Harvey in the ratings anywhere. As long as the innuendos don't rule all markets, then I'm happy. Coming from a household that now has Laramie on Grit instead of Feud playing before/during dinner...

What's even more damaging than the innuendos is the poor English ghetto-speak.

Yes. Here. I'm going to merge this with the AP-GSN thread, because this is technically a GSN-related topic. looks like the forums are gone unless it's been moved again

I did go to GSN's site quite a while ago to find the forums to look for some information. Turns out what was left of the forums have gone the way of the dinosaur. I think this is hinting that the so-called new boards GSNAngel said would be in development was nothing more of a pacifier just to prevent backlash. That said, I think it's safe to declare that a new GSN forums will never see the light of day. If there would have been a new forum, it probably would have been up by now.

Wow, I really wish that GSN would get a new forum in the works fully. They had an excellent thread call Black & White Overnight thread, which detailed the full results of each episode and the night the episodes aired that night on GSN and there was also a thread about the Super Password episode guide to go along with the taping order for the 1988 shows. I have no idea why vbarchive chose to take the forum down. If GSN can get their act together and give their forum a rebirth as a read-only forum, I hope they bring back their first one that was last active in December 2010.
