Michael Pannoni says more people were taping movies back then than everything else, because they all felt their favorite movies would never get a video release. Well, there certainly were plenty of people taping game show episodes way back when. Not as many as movies, but more than just a few. I agree, but keep in mind that some people were taping game shows solely because either they were on the show, or a relative/friend was. For instance: * The five existing 1974 episodes of Three On A Match were saved by megachamp Fred Abrahams. * Randy Amasia's first episode of Whew! was recorded by a coworker...who then forgot to record the second show. (Randy stated on ATGS at one point that he felt it wasn't a coincidence said coworker quickly became a former coworker.) * And to bring this back around to Wheel, while he's far from the only one, Scott Hostetler saved his two-day run from 1978. IIRC, those were the first Woolery episodes to make their way around the trading circuit, and that was about 20 years ago. /I feel old now

Fred may have recorded his TOAM episodes on U-Matic. Same thing with Preston Jones when he was on The $10,000 Pyramid in 1973; Betamax wasn't out until 1975.

Then that makes at least two people who were recording that June 1973 Pyramid episode, since Jones himself said that his own copy wasn't the source for the copy that's been circulating for however-many-years now.

For those that aren't in the know with the inside baseball-esque knowledge, which episode is the one with Preston Jones? Kaye Ballard-Richard Deacon?

And now we have two more episodes of Musical Chairs that are now confirmed to exist thanks to a contestant recording their episodes. Awesome!! Does that make it three or four?

In light of Arlene Dittamo posting her two episodes of Musical Chairs, Jamie Locklin revealed something very interesting on GSF: The entire run of The Money Maze (short-lived game show hosted by George Clooney's father Nick Clooney from December 23, 1974 to June 27, 1975 on ABC) DOES exist. HOWEVER, the tapes were not well cared for and are plagued with tracking problems and blurry picture. www.gameshowforum.org/index.php/topic,29857.msg361488.html#msg361488 (highlight link and copy/paste to address bar) So how were the tapes not "well cared for"? Were they stored in inadequate conditions, instead of a climate-controlled tape vault?

But Money Maze's sister show Big Showdown did not have its tapes saved as far as anyone knows?

Nope. As far as I know, only the episode with the big FALL down exists.

Just confirmed by Cyndi Seidlman (host of Game Show Garbage): The Video Game, which was produced by JM Productions, the company behind Starcade, doesn't exist anymore. The tapes went up in flames. UPDATE: Cyndi says the fire happened between 2000 and 2002.

Wait a minute. Now Ryan Rinkerman says this.
After reading Cyndi Seidelman's post about The Video Game, I emailed JM Productions, asking if they wanted my copies. They thanked me for the offer, and responded that that was not true. Seems like the tapes are intact.
I've since deleted my older post so that doesn't spread any further.

So I was goofing around browsing the archives for the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago. Nothing that isn't publicly out there already from what I could tell, but this did catch my eye: museumtv.pastperfectonline.com/archive/AC1485A7-B6AB-4A6F-AA9D-408237100962Looks like they have an episode of the Betty White game show Just Men! that is definitely not in circulation anywhere as far as I know. I live in Indiana and am debating making the trek over soon to visit some friends. And now this piece of news makes me think I should make a pitstop over to the MBC to check this out. Anyone that lives nearby that's seen this and can confirm this is what it sounds like?

Hope Rick Rosner didn't order the tapes destroyed. It is NEVER the network's fault if some NBC game shows don't exist anymore. Usually, it is the production company's fault. Pre-1985 Wheel doesn't exist anymore because of Merv Griffin's production policy. Don Reid lost all the tapes of Dream House not because he ordered them destroyed, but because there was a flood in his home.
Didn't GSN say many years before that they have all of both runs of Battlestars?
The Just Men! episode you linked to comes from the second-to-last week of the series. Perhaps they meant March 23, 1983, not March 23, 1979?
