Okay, that was unexpected.
Any early word on who succeeds him?

Any early word on who succeeds him? Hasn't been finalized but apparently it's Terry Crews. Never heard of him but after looking at his resume, it's a safe bet I won't be tuning in. I haven't seen a Millionaire episode since the shuffle format began.

I love Terry on Brooklyn Nine-Nine but I admit this sounds like a random choice. It'll be interesting if he actually gets it. If it's finalized, hopefully his hosting style will be good.
In the end Cedric wasn't one of my favorite hosts... I think he would have been better if he didn't shout so much. I'm not ready to give up on this show completely yet.

Cedric's quitting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? What a surprise because although he was cool he will be missed by us Who Wants To Be A Millionaire fans but if I were gonna pick a new host for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire here would be my choices for hosts, 1. Chris Hayes {Star Of MSNBC's All In With Chris Hayes}, 2. Josh Gad {Actor} 3. Kelsey Grammer, 4. Ted Danson, 5. Ty Pennington, 6. David Hyde Pierce, 7. Bebe Neuwirth, But with or without Cedric Who Wants To Be A Millionaire will still be a huge favorite in TV ratings with fans, Kelsey

I know at least a couple of them are busy, but I do find it interesting that they had a number of guest hosts to fill in for Meredith and when choosing a new one, they didn't pick one of them.

Did they even do an audition in either Cedric's or now Terry's case? It looks like they just hand-selected both of them out of the blue.

Gives me more of a reason not to watch Millionaire. Cedric was great, I didn't see him much on the show this season, but he's great. Terry Crews? Someone I don't even know. Yeah... I don't think the ratings will be skyrocketing anytime soon. This show's gone downhill for sure.
There was a time when there were lots of people who were just plain game show hosts, such as Gene Rayburn, Allen Ludden, Bert Convy, Alex Trebek, Pat Sajak, Bob Eubanks, Richard Dawson, Jim Perry, etc. It wasn't too hard to find someone to do a game show, really it wasn't.

I'm going to try and be fair with the general idea of Millionaire picking unexpected and new people to the game show world to host the show because Meredith had absolutely no game show hosting experience whatsoever; and not only did she become a personal favorite of mine, but she managed to win over a number of fans, brought life into a then new era of the show, and helped carry it for 11 seasons. Regis had hosted one game show that bombed in 1975, and until Millionaire, didn't have any other game show experience with the exception of appearing on Password Plus for 2 weeks... and not only was his run memorable but he's often celebrated as the best host of the American franchise within the fandom. And I bet we would have gotten at least another season out of it if ABC didn't insist on airing it multiple nights a week and we didn't get week after week of celebrity themed episodes.
Cedric wasn't really polished and had some weaknesses, but I wonder what could have happened if he stayed with the show. Hosts can excel with their given shows within the first taping day, but sometimes, even with an ok start, it takes a while for them to fully warm up and adapt to the format that they're doing. There's a pretty substantial difference between the Meredith who hosted her first week or so and the Meredith who left the series.
If Terry will be the definite choice, I hope he'll fit in well. I'll reserve judgment until I see him actually host because no other gig he's done (Old Spice commercials, Everybody Hates Chris, and now Brooklyn Nine-Nine) shows me what he could do with a show like Millionaire.
If we're going to start naming suggestions: as far as seasoned hosts go, Tom Bergeron just left Funniest Home Videos, which means he has a slot free if he hasn't decided to do anything else. I'd love it if he hosted Millionaire full time. He was good in 2007 when he guest hosted for that week.

Isn't Terry Crews from the movie Barbershop? Because I do recall seeing him in that movie and it's one of my favorite movies but I never knew that Terry Crews had game show talent and I think he will be a cool host for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and bring great ratings to the show, Kelsey

It boggles the mind how they'd rather pull in someone with no prior game show hosting experience as opposed to one of the guest hosts during Viera's run. I'd say Disney doesn't care anymore but I don't think they have since they lost the suit.

I'm just surprised Millionaire is still alive. Haven't watched it in years. Personally, I'd discontinue this show. I mean, it keeps getting bad ratings, doesn't it? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if it's true, then just cancel it.

So Terry Crews is indeed the new host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire after all? I am surprised that Who Wants To Be A Millionaire chose him to replace Cedric The Entertainer and if Terry can do a great job hosting Who Wants To Be A Millionaire I can predict the ratings for the show will do better. As I sometimes watch Who Wants To Be A Millionaire when Let's Make A Deal is on commercial break I think that not only will Who Wants To Be A Millionaire survive in ratings with a new host but with a brand-new never before seen format and bring the Hotseat out of retirement and even better theme music too. All I can say is that Cedric will be missed by fans but will be a whole new world in which Terry Crews will follow in Regis Meredith and now Cedric's footsteps and this new change will be a whole new world for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire for a new generation, Kelsey

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if it's true, then just cancel it. Millionaire has consistently been pulling up the rear among the other major game shows - per Game Show Follies, they have been basically three ratings points behind Family Feud, and 4+ behind WoF and Jeopardy. Anyway, I watched a little with Cedric this season. He wasn't that bad, he basically hosted by his own style and didn't try to imitate Regis or Meredith. My hangup with Millionaire is the format, not the host(s).
