Jim Thornton should be the next announcer on Jeopardy! when Johnny Gilbert decides to retire (or ends up dying during production like Alex did).
Jim's predecessor on Wheel, Charlie O'Donnell, announced all three of the Barry & Enright game shows in production starting in 1981 (Bullseye, The Joker's Wild, and Tic Tac Dough). So, it would not be unusual for one announcer to work on both of Merv Griffin's game shows.
Of course, I hope Johnny works as long as he wants to. I am just saying there should be a replacement in mind when he does decide to end his work (voluntarily or otherwise).

A little late to the party but I definitely found the whole 9000 episode segment super heart warming. this has been a good tournament seeing all the former big champions compete together.

I miss the regular game play so much I have been watching the season 39 reruns that WABC airs on Saturdays. It was nice to see Troy Meyer's original run again as I was watching him compete in the TOC finals.

The bad news is that the J! channel on Pluto, along with the WOF channel are no longer on the channel lineup.
The good news is that Colin Jost has been named the host of Pop Culture Jeopardy.
