Yeah, the syndicated 1970s Concentration is worth watching

It wasn't just another Narz Concentration we got... Unsold Orson Bean pilot, anyone? (A different one than has been on the circuit for years. Apparently there were ten of the things taped. Weird.)

Interesting for sure. Wondering if those ten have any format tweaks within them or was it just the same one that was used.

I think the unusual matching format of the Bean version was by itself enough of a "format tweak." It's a fun variation on the theme, though it certainly appears cribbed from an educational-software Concentration clone, Match Wits, that appeared on the Atari 800 and Commodore 64 platforms (possibly Apple II as well) at around the time these pilots were made. Maybe slightly earlier. (And when I say "Concentration clone," I don't mean it was just the matching-game element; Match Wits not only duplicated a 30-number gameboard in the style of the Downs/Clayton/Narz eras, but even had the rebus puzzles!)
But with that said, I'm glad they went back to basics for the revival as it finally aired. Sometimes, simpler really is better.

I'm expecting the rest of the stuff to be released once Wink's Facebook or YouTube reaches some random milestones again, just like with the rest of the Concentration episodes we haven't seen yet. Just saw Wink's FB page; as soon as it gets 4,500 likes, the next episode -- from 12/10/76 -- is going up.

Today is the 42nd anniversary of the debut of Gambit. So the finale is up on YouTube right now.

Wink just uploaded an episode of Las Vegas Gambit earlier. Here it is, from May 14th, 1981.

At least we could tell this is NOT the pilot episode GSN already aired. They probably wish they did...

Last week, under the radar almost, Wink posted a full episode of The Match Game - Hollywood Squares Hour, complete with slate. Watch and enjoy:

...Why? Looks fine to me, nothing out of the ordinary.
(Well, aside from Jm J. Bullock being about as screamingly unfunny as he can possibly be, but that's normal for him...)
