Since the Game Show Network was set to have the version of "Card Sharks" with Bob Eubanks broadcast on a regular basis again as part of their new programming plans for Monday through Thursday and Friday, I thought about starting a discussion about it and the other versions before then. I'll start it off by stating I wish the version with Jim Perry had been the version they would have broadcast on a regular basis again since I had always preferred it over the one with Bob Eubanks due to the enthusiasm and professionalism Jim Perry usually displayed on it (it would have been a good complement for the version of "Sale of the Century" currently part of Game Show Network's weekday programming plans since Jim Perry was the host of that version).

I would've loved a new Perry lease, but it's good to see some Eubanls episodes. I've kind of wanted to see the car game for awhile. Do hope Perry's version comes back.
Either way, the Eubanks episodes begin on September 29th at 9:00am ET.

I'd like to ask a question regarding Young People's Week in the final months of Eubanks' Card Sharks: I know there was a Young People's Week likely during Thanksgiving Week, but it had the Range Board game played for a trip to Hawaii, and the contestant could win the trip to Hawaii if exactly right, or off by one (I definitely remember seeing an episode on GSN sometime in early 2005). I'd like to ask, was that the final Young People's Week ever in the run, or was there at least one more Young People's Week in 1989?

Well it was good to see the Car Game again, as well as the 10-person polls (I caught part of it, I'm putting MG77 episodes on DVD). But I have to say, every time I watch Bob, I appreciate Jim slightly more and more. Eubanks is not as bad as I used to think he was, but...I dunno, makes me wanna watch the other hosts.
I have to say though, had they gone January 1986 again, I'd definitely be complaining.

My feelings about the version of "Card Sharks" with Bob Eubanks are still the same as having watched today's broadcast of one of the editions with him. I would still continue this version for its contestants and gameplay for as long as it's part of the Game Show Network's regular programming plans, though.

Didn't know they would do more than one 10-person audience poll in a row. Interesting.

Didn't know they would do more than one 10-person audience poll in a row. Interesting. I also find it weird how, on the first episode of the current lease of Eubanks-hosted episodes, that there was only one "Out of 100 people" question during that episode, and at least one Educated Guess question. Also, when GSN last aired Christmas 1986 of Card Sharks, the 12/19/1986 episode had what I consider the quickest match possible - the champion (Diane) crowned after two rounds and only two questions involved during the match. After getting the timing for all the Money Cards/Car Game and matches, It turns out that the majority of that episode was devoted to Money Cards/Car Game and less matches. I think GSN has leased enough episodes to include Christmas Week 1986 in the current batch, since the episode numbers for Christmas Week are 247 to 251, according to PDFs posted in 2008.

Today was the episode where Lacey and Suzanna would start wearing different outfits each episode. The models no longer wear corresponding colors.
Also, tomorrow's GSN airing features a contestant named Bob... Eubanks?!
I also wonder when the colorful car marquee flashing around in a circle on the screen will first appear? I think, according to a CBS promo for Card Sharks from back in 1987, there was a clip of such marquee but it had a black outline instead of a drop shadow. And I still don't hear the TPIR losing horns whenever someone does not win on the car game yet.

Didn't know they would do more than one 10-person audience poll in a row. Interesting. That's what I was thinking to. Also, did contestants really "cut the cards" on the show? It seems silly, but I never really understood what it meant. Sent from my GT-P5113 using proboards

For a while during the Perry run, a crew member associated with the show did it. But contestants after that cut the cards behind the scenes before each of the main games, and each contestant cuts another deck of cards in preparation of them possibly winning the match and playing the money cards round. It's a part of standards and practices to ensure a fair game. There's one episode from 1980 that shows how the process was done: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RKGxJS21iw

Far too many of the "10 people in the audience" questions for me. Were there always this many? It seems like at least half, if not more like 2/3, of the questions are that type. Still, nice to have fresh eps., and I've been watching them regularly.

I think those 10 audience questions are kind of fun. I've guessed right on a couple of those. It's fun once in awhile to guess which of the 10 people, instead of which of the 100. I don't have a problem with educated guess questions though.
I agree, though. I don't even remember this many of those types of questions.
I record the episodes regularly, but it clutters my DVR eventually, just like Match Game. But, it's got some space on it.

I'm a big Card Sharks fan and I've wondered about their research methods. Has anyone ever heard anything about how they did their polling? All the "we asked 100 ______" questions. Where, how, did they find these people - maybe the yellow pages for the professional groups? Was the questioning then done in person? Over the phone? Through the mail? Door to door? And when they found a certain group of 100 - be it 3rd graders, or psychiatrists, or women executives, what-have-you, did they ask them a bunch of questions so that they would have more "ammo" for the show? I've just always wondered about this. Some groups seem harder to locate 100 of, like "millionaires". How do you go about finding 100 millionaires? I don't know whether any of this information has ever surfaced but if it has I'd be fascinated to hear about it. Thanks in advance!
